What ATS is and how to optimize your resume
Screening software may analyze resumes before a human sees them. Learn how it works and how to improve document readability.
ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is a type of software many companies use to receive and organize applications. It may read your document, extract text, and help recruiters search or compare information with job requirements. Different systems use different methods.
Practical rules: single column whenever possible, standard fonts (Inter, Arial, Calibri), no images inside tables, no icons replacing text. Decorative icons are fine — just don't hide essential information in them.
Some systems and recruiter searches depend on exact keyword matches, while newer tools may also recognize related terms. When it is relevant and truthful to your experience, using the same terminology as the job posting can make matching easier.
Jornatta's Atlas, ClearPath, Toronto and Chicago templates are structured for ATS readability while looking professional.
