Career pivot: how to position yourself without looking junior again
Changing fields doesn't erase your experience. The trick is translating what you already know into the new field's vocabulary.
Start with a transferable-skills map. Project management, data analysis, stakeholder communication, negotiation — all of it moves across fields.
Rewrite the top summary around the new field. Clear target title. Two lines on what you bring and what you've done that connects.
Reorder experience keeping chronology but leading with bullets that show skills relevant to the new field. Older roles can shrink to a single line (title + company + period).
Consider a personal project, recognized course or volunteer work in the new field — it signals real commitment. Add a dedicated section if you have it.
Avoid hiding your previous field: unexplained gaps raise questions. In most cases, telling the story works better than hiding it.
